Urine leaking is most often a problem with older female dogs who do not
seem to produce enough female hormones. Your pet is not choosing to
urinate in the house, but does so unconsciously, often in their sleep.
Bladder infections, bladder stones and bladder tumors can also cause
this problem. We strongly recommend a urinalysis, and possibly xrays,
to determine if one or more of these problems are present. Medications
are prescribed to control problems stemming from infection or low
hormone levels. If diagnosed early enough, surgery is recommended for
stones and tumors along with antibiotic therapies. Uncontrolled
urine leaking can cause skin problems and bladder infections. When the
pet is shoved outside to avoid the mess and odor problems in the house,
the continuing leaking can attract flies and maggots which further
compromise your pet’s health. Find out more about other common conditions affecting senior pets: • Obesity • Arthritis | |
